Convergence is an homage to the genres of progressive-metal and pop music, of which I’ve been a fan throughout my life.
It is also a piece about change and growth over time, as new musical identities emerge from previous ones. Convergence begins in the midst of the action, and various motives grow out of the opening groove. These motives eventually becoming distinct from their source material and form the basis of the piece’s melodic/harmonic content.
The various motives converge on one another as the piece draws to a close, re- combining and reconciling to form one last identity before the piece suddenly ends, still in a state of transition.
